Creating a sense of urgency...
Strolling through early social media posts I recall being struck down in my browse, by words of wisdom leaking out streams of supposed inspiration: “drive forward,” “be ambitious,” improve efficiency,” and yet now I find myself drowning in the cognitive dissonance brought about by the array of these morsels of truth, so splayed, sprinkled and drenching that I’m so busy thinking of a future (note, not necessarily mine, just “a”), thinking of these buzz terms, that I’ve long left behind the basic notion of the one thing that impacts every single last one of us. And that thing, is motivation. In this time short world (which heads up is not actually in any way less or more time short than any other period...just saying!), the moment we truly need to slow down is in the moment of considering our underlying motivations. Not someone elses, but our own. With this found, and visually in hand we can life hack our way into almost anything. I believe the answer to this life hack, lies in the creation of a sense of urgency (hell, if you own that imagination isn’t really your thing - I’d go so far as to suggest considering boosting your current state into that very sense of tangible real-world urgency). I won’t bore you with the stories told much better by so many other inspirational personalities but I will implore you to take a look, do some google digging: whether it’s Richard Branson, Oprah Winfrey, Jack Ma, Isaac Newton, Greta Thunberg, Anthony Robbins, Jane Goodall, Angela Merkel, Warren Buffett or Malala Yousafzai ...every single one of these influencers had and still have one thing in common: a sense of urgency. So…as a call to action - here’s some basic tips on where to start your mindset:When was the last time you felt truly fulfilled and joyous? Was there a theme, e.g. socialising, helping others, solving a problem alone, dancing, winning as a team, playing with a pet, cooking that perfect dish, beating a deadline, having a cup of tea, being thanked for a job well done…What other areas of your life have you seen this theme play out and greet you again and again by a really gut-feels-good feeling? Most advice out there gets you to focus on how to find these, cherish them and work positively towards removing obstacles in the way of you achieving this bliss, over and over again. This post asks you to focus elsewhere...imagine your life (because whether you like it or not, your health does directly) depend on and feed off having more of these moments...was in a state of urgency.Mentally imagine this thing: paid the bills, kept you well, protected you, fed you etc...I suspect then YOU in this newly created sense of oddly calm, considered and yet very much so crisis-oriented urgencyWOULD DO (*almost) WHATEVER IT TAKES TO ACHIEVE IT and live a PURPOSE-FUL, JOYOUS AND RICH LIFE!It is my belief that with focus, you will get here either way, if, however you’re looking to get there a little quicker and in a more sustainable way - then think about taking action, making yourself matter and booking a 1:1 coaching session with our head coach, Louise - who specialises in helping folks in this very area.
